Cave Creek Cattle is a small registered seedstock operation located in the hills of Tennessee, just Northwest of Nashville. We focus on purebred Gelbvieh cattle and a few high percentage Balancer cattle. Our goal is to offer our customers sound, phenotypically correct cattle with superior genetics. We serve customers operating in both the seedstock and commercial cattle sectors of the market.
Our program is designed around our selection and retention process. Animals purchased for the farm or raised on the farm are carefully vetted. Animals with disposition, structural or performance concerns are quickly identified and culled. We have a strict artificial insemination and breeding window. Each female is artificially inseminated once and thereafter exposed to a bull for 60 days. Open females are culled without exception. This process helps us keep the fertility of our herd and the animals sold to our customers at a very high level. Our AI program, on average, results in pregnancy in about 85% of exposures.
Our calving season begins in the last week of September and ends by the middle of November. We individually weigh and tag each calf on the day of its birth in the pasture by our home. Calves are weaned in late April and are weighed, measured, and evaluated carefully at that time. Calves with performance, disposition or structural problems noted at that time are culled to the feed yard. Cattle with consistently underperforming calves are carefully evaluated and monitored for continued participation in our program.
Our cattle are sold through private treaty sales directly off the farm or marketed through sales sponsored by the Bluegrass Gelbvieh Alliance.
